Picky Produce 2

I received two different answers when attempting to find out what our store does with lost produce, either spoiled, beyond date or imperfect.  The first answer I received was “the hogs” which is where  the produce items that might contain seeds get sent; such as tomatoes and watermelons.  The produce is shipped to local pig farmers where they eat everything.  The rest of it such as lettuces, greens and bananas is stored and eventually turned to compost over a period of time.

From the store we package the lost produce in old bannana boxes and send it back to the warehouse daily on a pallete about five feet high.  It is someones job at the warehouse to sort out whats reusuable and what to convert it to.  Thats about all the information I could get out of my produce manager and store manager.
